Faith Worth Contending For ~ Spotting Counterfeits

In this continuation of the study of Jude, today’s message continues to examine Jude’s warnings about false teachers and the dangers they pose to the faith. Jude provides three more historical examples: Cain, who rejected God’s Word and chose his own way; Balaam, who treated God’s work as a means of personal gain; and Korah, who rejected God’s authority. Together, these examples warn believers to take God’s Word seriously, refuse to make faith a commodity, and recognize Jesus as Lord and the ultimate authority over their lives.

Jude then uses vivid illustrations: hidden reefs, waterless clouds, fruitless trees, wild waves, and wandering stars. He uses these to describe people who appear spiritual but bear no genuine spiritual fruit. Their lives ultimately reveal their true character. Yet the sermon concludes with hope: Jesus is the true and perfect Leader who gives life rather than exploiting others. Believers are called not merely to identify counterfeits, but to know the real Christ and live faithfully for Him to ensure they themselves will not be counterfeits.
