Faith Worth Contending For ~ A Glorious Doxology – Part 1
Jude concludes his urgent letter with a glorious, exalted doxology that reminds believers of God’s power, what He has done for them, His faithfulness, and His saving grace. After warning against false teachers and calling Christians to contend for the faith, Jude offers comfort and assurance in the truth that God can keep His people from stumbling.
Our salvation does not ultimately depend upon our own strength or ability to measure up. Rather, God actively guards, protects, and sustains us as we seek to remain in His love. Though we will stumble and fall short, His grace and mercy remain sufficient.
Jude also reminds us of the glorious promise that God will present us blameless before His glorious presence with great joy. Through the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus Christ, what the tabernacle and temple could never accomplish has been fulfilled. We will one day stand in the presence of God’s glory, redeemed and rejoicing.
Ultimately, our hope rests not in ourselves, but in Him alone, who is able now and forever. Amen.
STUDY GUIDE
Opening Reflection
1. Have you ever studied a passage of Scripture that left you wondering how you could live up to what you needed to do or what God requires? How did you respond?
Understanding the Scripture
2. Why does Jude conclude his letter with a doxology (an expression of praise and worship) after so many warnings and exhortations?
3. According to Jude 24, what are two things God can do for believers?
4. What does it mean that God is able to “keep you from stumbling”? How does this promise bring comfort and encouragement?
5. Jude speaks of being “kept” for Christ (verse 1), keeping ourselves in God’s love (verse 21), and God keeping us from stumbling (verse 24). How do these three truths work together in our Christian walk?
Personal Application
6. Why is it dangerous to rely on our own strength, wisdom, or abilities in our walk with Christ?
7. What does it mean to be presented “blameless before the presence of His glory”? How does the sacrifice of Jesus make this possible?
8. Do we sometimes become so occupied with the things of this world that we lose sight of the promise of being in God’s presence? How can we cultivate a greater longing for Him?
Closing Reflection
9. How should the assurance of God’s keeping power change the way we respond when we stumble, struggle, or feel inadequate?
10. Jude concludes by declaring that God deserves “glory, majesty, dominion, and authority” forever. What is one practical way you can give God glory this week in response to His grace and faithfulness?
