Spiritual Disciplines ~ Life on Mission – Barriers: Fear Part 1

Have you ever stood at the edge of despair, questioning, “Is this really how life was meant to be?” Today, we will delve deeper into our collective yearning for something more profound amid the struggles of life, and how God has called us to a greater mission and purpose than we could ever imagine reminding us that we are indeed God’s masterpieces, crafted for good works and a mission of reclamation, reconciliation, and restoration in a world marred by sin as we continue to explore the spiritual discipline of living life on mission in mission and service to God’s Kingdom. Today, we will begin discussing the various barriers and obstacles we face in our lives to do just this, and focusing on the transformative power of fear, our most significant barrier to stepping into our God-given mission. Inviting us to release our fears to God, and how God has already seen to all we worry over in this life.

Study Guide

1 – What does it mean to be God’s workmanship as described in Ephesians 2:10, and how can we actively live out that identity in our daily lives?
– Application: Think of a specific situation in your life where you can reflect God’s goodness and love. How can you act as His masterpiece in that situation?

2 – We discussed how fear can paralyze us from living a life of mission. Can you identify a fear in your own life that has held you back from pursuing your goals?
– Application: What steps can you take to confront and overcome fear, and how can your faith in Jesus support you in that journey?

3 – According to the sermon, how did sin affect our relationship with God and the mission we are called to?
– Application: Reflect on how you can restore your relationship with God to better fulfill your role in His mission, both individually and within your community.

4 – What role does seeking God’s approval play in living out our mission, and how can we change our mindset about human approval?
– Application: How can you intentionally focus on seeking God’s approval over human approval in your daily interactions?

5 – How does the promise in Isaiah 41:9-10 provide comfort and strength when facing fear and obstacles?
– Application:  In what ways can you turn to scripture, like Isaiah 41:9-10, during difficult times to find encouragement and courage?
