Spiritual Disciplines ~ Evangelism & Proclamation – How: B.L.E.S.S – Serve

Today’s sermon teaches that evangelism flows from living like Jesus, who blessed others by praying, listening, eating with them, and serving them. Jesus modeled humble, sacrificial service—most vividly when He washed His disciples’ feet the night before His death. His act of selfless service shows that greatness in God’s kingdom comes not through power but through going low in love. Followers of Jesus are called to embody the “cruciform” life, remembering that they are not their own but belong to Christ, and that faithful proclamation of the Gospel begins with humble service that opens doors to hope, urging us to seek whom God is calling us to serve today.

STUDY GUIDE

1 – How does Jesus’ act of washing the disciples’ feet redefine greatness in God’s kingdom? What does this teach us about the nature of true leadership?

2 – In what ways does serving others create meaningful openings for sharing the hope of Jesus? Can you recall a moment when service deepened a spiritual conversation or relationship?

3 – The sermon emphasizes that Christians are “not their own” but have been “bought with a price” (Galatians 2:20). How does this truth shape your willingness to go low and serve others?

4 – Why is it significant that Jesus spent His final night before death serving—washing feet—instead of doing something grand or self-focused? What does this reveal about His mission and priorities?

5 – How does understanding that “there is no such thing as one more day to live in Christ” encourage intentionality in our service and being willing to go low?

6 – What cultural or personal barriers make humble service difficult in our world today? How can believers overcome these obstacles?

7 – Reflect on the examples of honor and shame discussed. How does Jesus’ approach overturn worldly systems of status, privilege, and self-protection?

8 – Who might God be calling you to serve this week, and what specific action can you take to “lay down your crown for the towel”?
