Praising God
The phrase,“Praise God!” is found often in the Bible, in songs, and is often uttered by Christians. Yet what exactly does it mean to praise God? In ancient Hebrew and Greek, the words used for praise mean to give Him thanks, to honor Him, commend Him, give Him glory, to make a noise, to bless, and to speak well of Him.
So why should we praise God? Because as the Creator of all, He is worthy of our adoration and thanks, worthy to receive glory, commendation, and honor. In addition, when we praise God we come into His presence and acknowledge His sovereignty. Plus, when we praise God, we focus on Him instead of our trials and challenges.
Lastly, how should we praise God? We can praise Him with our words (in prayer and towards others), our singing, with musical instruments, and when we assemble as a family of believers, blessing and drawing near to God together.
