Lest We Forget ~ Lessons From the Great Cloud
Today’s message reflects on the 115 years of the Church of God of Exeter, while calling believers to continue faithfully carrying out the mission of Christ into future generations. Centered on Hebrews 12:1–2, the message reminds the church that the Christian life is not a one-time decision but an ongoing race of faith that requires endurance, sacrifice, and a focus on Jesus. Drawing from Hebrews 10 and 11, the sermon highlights the “great cloud of witnesses,” the faithful men and women who trusted God despite imperfection, hardship, suffering, and failure. Through their examples, five themes emerge: God uses imperfect people, believers face difficult situations, faith involves enduring struggles, God remains faithful even when His people falter, and ultimately God prevails. The church’s own 115-year history reflects these same truths through trials, victories, and perseverance. We then must lay aside sin and every hindrance, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and continue living out our shared mission and legacy for generations to come.
