Epiphany 2026 ~ He Himself is Our Peace

This sermon centers on Epiphany, which is the celebration of Christ revealed not only to Israel but to the Gentiles. Drawing from Ephesians 2:11-22, reminding us that Gentiles, we, were once separated from Christ, alienated from God’s promises, and without hope. Yet in Jesus, everything changes. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Christ breaks down the dividing wall of hostility between Jew and Gentile, reconciling humanity to God and to one another. He fulfills the Law, removes every barrier of exclusion, and creates one new humanity marked by peace. Epiphany declares that no one is too far off, too different, or too unwanted to be brought near by the blood of Christ. In a divided world, this message calls the Church to live as a united people, built together on Christ the cornerstone, bearing witness to the reconciling peace only Jesus can give.

STUDY GUIDE

Epiphany and Inclusion
What is Epiphany, and why is the revelation of Jesus to the Gentiles such an important moment for the Church today?

Remembering Our Past
In Ephesians 2:11–12, Paul calls Gentile believers to “remember” who they once were. Why is remembering our past separation from Christ important for our faith and humility?

Walls of Hostility
What “dividing walls” existed between Jews and Gentiles in biblical times? What modern walls of division do we still see today—in society or even in the Church?

Jesus as Our Peace
Paul says, “He himself is our peace” (v.14). How is peace more than just a feeling or absence of conflict in this passage?

One New Humanity
What does it mean that Jesus created “one new man” instead of two (v.15)? How does this challenge ideas of superiority, exclusion, or identity based on differences?

Vertical and Horizontal Reconciliation
How does reconciliation with God change the way we relate to other people? Why can’t true peace with God exist alongside hostility toward others?

Living as God’s Household
According to verses 19–22, how does Paul describe the Church? What does this image teach us about belonging and unity?

Personal Reflection
Where might God be calling you to tear down a wall of hostility or exclusion in your own life?
